  • About the Colony Meadery

The Colony Meadery’s mission is to produce the boldest and most innovative meads in the world.

We use experimental batches, modern methodology, and precise control of fermentation to create meads that are distinct and varied. We believe in uncompromising quality, flavor and craftsmanship.

    About the Founders

    GREG HELLER-LABELLE, CO-FOUNDER AND CEO

Greg was a longtime beer writer with a background and connoisseurship of beverages including craft beer, bourbon and mezcal. He discovered craft beer and made his first batch of mead while getting his undergrad degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked in nonprofit before receiving an MBA, focusing in entrepreneurship at Lehigh University, and has launched and worked with multiple startups in industries ranging from banking to education technology. The Colony’s launch in a revitalizing South Allentown combines his love of beverages, startups and economic development.

    MICHAEL MANNING, CO-FOUNDER AND MEADMAKER

An accomplished home brewer, Michael brewed his first batch of beer in 2001 and the hobby took hold. He decided to dabble into mead making by following the recipe published by The American Homebrewers Association for Mead Day 2009. That batch of mead went on to win several awards at various competitions and eventually spawned the recipe that became the 2011 Valhalla mead competition best-of-show winning recipe. His commercial meads have won a combined 8 medals in their first two national mead competitions.
