[VIDEO] Virginia: Silver Hand Meadery quenches thirst and curiosity in Williamsburg

Curiosity brings many people to Silver Hand Meadery for the first time.

A delicious drink distilled in Williamsburg is what owners Glenn and Sherri Lavender hope will keep them coming back.

Mead is an alcoholic drink with a honey base. Like some craft beers and wines, mead can be flavored with fruits and spices.

“Mead’s got the creativity of a craft beer, but the elegance of wine,” Glenn Lavender said. “There’s really no rules with mead.”

Silver Hand Brewery, the first business of it’s kind in the region, celebrated it’s grand opening with free mead samplings and $9 honey tastings during the first weekend of March.

The meadery currently offer two meads distilled on site; “Virginia Moon,” made with honey from the state’s wildflowers, and “Dream by the Fire,” flavored with Virginia apple cider, three types of honey, cinnamon and cloves, Sherri Lavender said.

Bottles of both meads are available for sale at the meadery.

Dee and Tom Peace, who had never tried mead before, visited the meadery on March 5 to see what the buzz was all about.
