Silver Hand Meadery to Open Saturday in Williamsburg Virginia

After receiving a special use permit from the Williamsburg City Council in June, the Silver Hand Meadery is preparing to open for business this weekend.

While Silver Hand Meadery is currently producing its first batch of mead — the first batch of mead is called Virginia Moon and is made from Virginia wildflower honey — customers are still encouraged to stop by 224 Monticello Ave. between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday to get a firsthand look at the mead-making process.

Owner Glenn Lavender said Saturday will be more about getting to meet the community than anything else. However, the Silver Hand Meadery will begin offering guided honey tastings starting Sunday.

The 30-minute honey tastings educate customers on how the honeybee creates and stores the honey, as well as how different nectar sources determine flavor and color. Those taking the tour will get to taste five different types of honey, all of which will be sold in the retail space of the meadery.

Guided honey tours are $9 per person, $8 for people over 55 and $1 for children 12 and under. Tickets are currently available for purchase online, and customers will receive a $2 coupon toward the purchase of products from Silver Hand Meadery’s retail space for each adult ticket purchased.
