13.9% ABV

Semi-sweet, Melomel

This little number is sweet and sexy, just the right balance between the honey and the red currants. Enjoy this with a variety of dishes, like Durban curried chicken (a South African favorite), Moroccan lamb, or Beef Stew.

Last weekend, I went to the Holy Grail Restaurant and Pub in Epping, NH, and found several selections of mead from Moonlight Meadery on the menu. The one that popped out at me was Red Dress, a mead made with red currants. I've tried several different meads over the years, but I've never had the opportunity to try a mead made from red currants and really didn't know what to expect.

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised!

Color and clarity were excellent and the nose reminiscint of fresh berries. If you were blindfolded and asked to describe the smell of this mead wafting out of the glass - you'd never pick up on the presence of honey in this mead.

The taste was absolutely outstanding, yielding a clean, crisp note of currants with a well balanced sweetness on the palate. This mead was so good, I chose to sip and savor it rather than drink it like any other mead.

If you happen to run across a bottle of Moonlight Meadery's Red Dress in your local store or favorite restaurant menu, I highly recommend it. Unless you prefer a very dry mead - you won't be disappointed!
