Description:

Semi-Sweet Melomel

Made from honey, blackcurrants, blueberries, black raspberries, the blackcurrants dominate the flavor; some describe this mead as something similar to a big, bad chardonnay.  The flavor is bold enough to pair with any meal, or to be enjoyed own its own with dark chocolates or with a cheese plate.  This mead is semi-sweet, with a tart fruit note from the currants, while leaving plenty of room for the honey and the other fruits in the background.

Pros: Very good flavor, aftertaste and aroma.
Cons: Price per volume.
Appearance: Excellent - (brilliant with outstanding color)
Smell: Very good - (characteristic aroma, complex, well balanced)
Taste: Very good - (characteristic flavor, complex, well balanced, full-bodied)
Aftertaste: Excellent - (lingering outstanding aftertaste)

This is the first mead of this type that I've tried and was pleasantly surprised.  My palate needed to adjust during the first couple of sips, but after the first two, the flavor was very good.  Excellent clarity and aroma.

Semi-Sweet Melomel

Made from honey, blackcurrants, blueberries, black raspberries, as with the review above, the blackcurrants DO seem to dominate the flavor; it reminds me of a dank, overly oaked merlot....you know, that dark smoky taste. The flavor is bold enough to pair with any meal, but I wouldn't; stick to a nice piece of game like elk or bison or maybe brisket. I would have liked to try it with a good dark chocolates or with a homemade vanilla ice cream. It's a bit more than semi-sweet, I would have appreciated getting less from the currants, and more from the other fruit but it was still amazing. Big honey aftertaste. Shared with friends and it was a hit!
