CORFU, NEW YORK — John Potoczyk thinks he has a “honey of a gift” for last-minute shoppers.

A beekeeper for 30 years at his Bell Road home, Potoczyk has opened Midgard Meadery, which makes wine from honey.

For the person who has everything, a bottle of honey wine, a jar of locally produced honey or a candle made from pure beeswax would fit the bill.

Potoczyk started experimenting with wine after retiring seven years ago as a math professor at the University at Buffalo.

Midgard Meadery is ready to sell its first wine, after hiring professional wine maker Dominic Carisetti from Orchard Park. Carisetti has 40 years’ experience in the business, having worked for several wineries on the Niagara Wine Trail and Taylor Winery.
