Acoustic Mead taproom opening in Traverse City, Michigan

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Bruce Grossman catches more customers with honey than he could with wine or beer.

Grossman started Acoustic Brewing Company in 2008. He makes 10 varieties of mead, a fermented honey drink, and one cider. He is opening a tasting room, Acoustic, in downtown Traverse City at 199 Maple Street this month.

Acoustic will be a small operation with few seats, akin to Tandem Ciders in Suttons Bay. Grossman expects to have nine meads, wines and ciders rotating on tap and sell bottles, growlers and merchandise.

Making mead helps Grossman carve a small niche in the growing craft libation scene.

“I had a dream about making mead,” Grossman said. “It was problem-solving in my sleep, I guess. I had this dream I was making mead, I was somewhere in a surreal landscape. Anyway, I thought about it and I was like ‘it makes so much sense.’”
